Hear from some of our interns!

“I feel like I’m constantly learning. There really is no course in school that can teach you what it’s like to work in an actual company.”

— Design Engineering Intern

Phillip’s Story: From Intern to Civil Engineer.

“To give a little perspective, I graduated high school in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2011. After graduation, I went into the Marine Corps as an Equipment Mechanic. Upon serving my 4 years in the Marine Corps, I decided to attend college and graduated from UNLV in May of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Thereafter, I received an opportunity to intern with Construction Management at the Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD). During my time as an intern, I was exposed to all sorts of construction activities and processes such as building diversion structures, installing sewer pipes, rehabilitating existing structures, and watching the plans for a chemical building start from scratch and grow into an amazing structure. I was also able to understand the vision/mission of the Reclamation District and how it impacts the community for the greater good. When a full-time position became available, I was encouraged to apply. I went through the interview process and received an opportunity to work full-time for CCWRD which I gladly accepted. I am very excited and grateful to be at CCWRD, and every day is a great opportunity to learn and interact with professionals across many different facets of engineering and construction. I truly feel that the work I do is meaningful and is impacting the community and environment in a very positive way.”

Internships are a big deal.

  • An internship at the District doesn’t mean making copies all day or being treated differently. With us, you’re just as much a part of the team as anyone else!

  • You’ll get real-life experience in the industry. We make sure your educational skills are paired with professional experience that can better prepare you for your future. Our interns get to work on meaningful projects that are important to the District and our community. You will collaborate with multiple teams and be part of a culture that promotes professional growth and development.
